When you think about opportunities in South Sudan, everybody thinks of oil, mining and natural resources. But guys, how many ordinary individuals do you know that have enough money to invest in an oil or mining company?

However if you are keen on opportunities that you average person can take advantage of, this video is for you.

In this video, I share things that are emerging, opportunities that South Sudan can give you as a young African and an ambitious diasporan who wants to explore. Where with a small capital you can apply yourself and build something huge. Because its time Africans we start building general wealth and empires.

I am here to tell you of the top 5 sectors that are ripe for the taking and would create the next millionaires out of South Sudan.

TRANSPORTATION

The first opportunity that I see making new millionaires in South Sudan today is in Transportation. As you know the country is not connected with major interstate road networks. It is only now that major roads are being built to connect the various states to the economic hub of Juba. So Interstate road travels will begin in no time. So if you are up to it, buy a number of buses that focus on inter-town and inter state travels. Lets say, Juba — Bor, Juba — Yei, Juba — Rumbek. Proper air conditioned buses that will allow people to travel in comfort and style. And as the road infrastructure continues to develop, this sector will be unstoppable.

EDUCATION

Basic and Second Cycle Education

Juba is expanding at an alarming rate and more away from the city centre. New middle class communities are starting to form and live on the outskirts of the city. So there’s a big opportunity and demand for schools outside of the city centre. Ideally you make people’s lives more convenient, when their children have to go to school within their neighborhoods and don’t have to trudge across town. So if you have some money and are passionate about education, invest in a quality school in the communities where the new middle class are beginning to build their homes, areas like Gudele 2, Gurei, Jebel.

We’ve also gotten on the other side of the river, Mangala, Nimule Road, Terekeka area and all the new areas now coming up on the outskirts of Juba. Closely tied to this is exploring Weekday Boarding School concepts, which has caught on very well in the East African private schools sector. It provides great convenience for working parents.

Vocational Training

There’s also another education opportunity that exists in teaching technical skills and artisanal skills as the country develops. In today’s world, A degree alone without skills will not be enough. And Vocational training is the way to go. Our youth need to be trained on how to fix cars as mechanics, IT training, masonry, tiling, dressmaking, carpentry etc.. This is a huge opportunity because as the country begins to expand, these services grow in demand. Electricity is being expanded. A lot of electricians are needed. People are buying cars, more mechanics are going to be needed. Building houses, they’ll need more masons and tilers. These present the opportunity for technical education and know-how to be able to build a strong artisanal class for the country. Which honestly is a big business opportunity. If you are passionate about Technical Education, this is the best time to invest to build a great Technical Training Institute focusing on these in demand skills.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM

The third opportunity is Hospitality and Tourism. The Serengeti is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world, with arguably the biggest migration of mammals in the world. Over 2 million wild beasts migrating from northern Tanzania to Kenya and then back. Both countries rake in hundreds of millions of tourism dollars from tourists that flock these countries to experience these migrations amongst other beauties nature has to offer.

In 2007 Conservation Scientists discovered a migration of antelopes, mongalla gazelles among other animals that rivals the Serengeti. Their conservative estimates put the animal migration to be at the same size of the serengeti, using pre war survey methods.

On a low key, what they were telling the world was that, wait, South Sudan has the biggest migration of mammals on earth.

With the country stabilizing and a strong effort to curate this game changing natural wonder in South Sudan, where do you think the next millions of tourism dollars will be made?

In the short term, we’ve got the White Nile flowing through Juba. Now think about a boat cruise ship from Juba to Cairo. A nice big cruise, you stay on for a week. Music, parties, casinos, everything…you get the picture!

Closely connected to tourism is the opportunity today in the Hospitality sector. South Sudan is a big country. With road transport opening up, the transit would take hours, meaning there will be the need for rest stops and restaurants along these transit routes. Strategically investing in restaurants, rest stops, guest houses along these routes is a big opportunity to produce future millionaires out of South Sudan.

REAL ESTATE

Middle income housing. If you are a young person with some small amount to invest and you are passionate about real estate, you can start small. Focus on providing quality housing for people. Don’t Cut corners, Provide quality housing and the market will reward you. Trust me on this because it is my lived experience.

Now this opportunity is ripe for takeoff in South Sudan because there’s a lot of people coming back. And as they come back, some would want to live on their own, or would want to live in apartments and the like. If they get quality from you and you are reliable, your credibility alone can make you a real estate tycoon in South Sudan for middle income housing. Think about apartments and small gated communities because security would still be an issue, as is in Nairobi, Kampala or any major African city.

AGRICULTURE

Last but not least is agriculture. Ofcourse guys this video would not be complete without me talking about agriculture. Because that is my area. Agriculture is actually the biggest opportunity in South Sudan.

South Sudan has a lot of land. More than 90 percent of South Sudan’s agriculture viable land is untouched,

We have rains almost 8 months out of the year.We have humidity that is good for the plants to grow. And with the kind of land, waters from the river nile and marsh land that South Sudan has, we have the potential to become the breadbasket of Africa and the Middle East.

For instance, with Sudd swamp, the largest wetland in Africa. We can grow enough rice to feed the whole continent.

Additionally, water hyacinth that naturally grow in the Sudd swamp, have great nutrients suitable for quality livestock feeds. They are also amazing in mushroom farming. And these are all given free of charge by mother nature and nobody is tapping into it.

So that in itself is a big opportunity. If any young person wants to invest in rice farming, livestock feeds, mushroom farming, believe me it’s gonna be big.

Thanks for Reading.
